Hope is offering education to young people about the dangers
of HIV/AIDS through a program called HIV Avoidance and
Purity Promotion for the Youth of Zambia, or HAPPY Zambia.
This program emphasizes the need for youth to delay sex
through character education. So far 300 peer educators
have been trained in the Lusaka area under the sponsorship
of Barclays Bank Zambia. The Minister of Education for
Zambia, Andrew Mulenga, has seen the good results of the
HAPPY Zambia program, and approved it to be introduced
in all Zambian schools. We lack the funding needed for
that.
